What a day we had Saturday! Rain, near freezing temperatures and variable winds resulted in some hard fought scores at the 2014 Oklahoma Gun Dog Championship. The event, held in Oklahoma every three years, matched 5 teams of six dogs against each other in Saturday’s team competition. High scores were scattered throughout the day, but with a run of low scoring braces and a dramatic change in scenting going into the final brace Larry Moore and Ben Faulkner recorded the highest scoring brace of the day. Larry Moore and his Pointer, Hoss, laid down 5 finds, five kills and five retrieves for a total score of 215 and the first place spot for the day while Ben Faulkner and his Brittany, Shelley, recorded 4 finds, 4 kills and 4 retrieves for a total of 172 to tie with Bob York and his English Setter, Cash, for the second spot on Saturday. Other handlers that advanced to the Sunday individual callbacks were Kent Long, Gary Hanger, Gary Thomas, Brian Ahern and David Kennedy.
