March 31, 2018 Gun Dog and Puppy Trial Results

April 1, 2018

It was a beautiful morning with a full moon lighting the way through the gate, just before the sun came up. We dodged a couple of rain showers and it never got as warm as forecasted. The grounds were wet in low places but the cover was excellent and if the planters didn’t throw them in a puddle, the birds flew really well. The scenting conditions seemed perfect to us humans but the dogs, with the 15-17 mph breeze, seemed to have some difficulty pinning them down. Three finds got you in the game but as usual retrieving and a…

March 17, 2018 Gun Dog and Puppy Trial Results

March 18, 2018

A beautiful day after a week of troubling forecasts. The birds from Phillip Ezell flew great, the judges, Ellison Gilliland and Matt Brown, did a great job. Nobody got shot, nobody contested a score, and there was some great dog work to score for a change. Tom Krause’s Dapper Dan was accused of peeking from the blind when the birds were being planted, because he scored 3 birds in about as many minutes to start his brace and his run to the 1st place score. Ben Faulkner’s Shelly turned in another stellar performance which is becoming the norm. James Parnell…

March 3, 2018 Gun Dog and Puppy Trial Results

March 6, 2018

It was a beautiful day at the grounds on Saturday for our first trial of the year. Larry Moore threw down the gantlet with a 144 score in the first brace, which more than held up till the last two braces of the day when the conditions changed with the wind dropping along with the temps a little or the bird build up reached the tipping point, don’t know. But in any case, Ben Faulkner’s Shelly, the old pro that she is, brought it home primarily on her retrieving performance. We all wonder about what effects the scenting conditions, (humidity,…

October 21, 2017 Gun Dog and Puppy Trial Results

October 23, 2017

It was a bit windy, overcast, and warm. Not good scenting conditions to start and it got worse. All except for the old dog who was trying to impress. Roscoe, Tom Alexander’s old war horse, who hadn’t run this year giving up starting position to the younger GSP Candy Man, had a point he wanted to make. Don’t count me out boss. And with nearly 100 points over the next closest dog, he made that point on Saturday.  Second place went to Sassy, setter female, handled by RuSean Hardman and third went to Tara, GSP female, handled by Keith Lindsay. Over…

October 7, 2017 Gun Dog and Puppy Trials

October 8, 2017

The Tulsa Bird Dog Association kicked off the second half of our 2017 season with the first Gun Dog and Puppy trial of the fall. The conditions started out a bit soggy in the morning, getting better throughout mid day and ended fairly warm with temperatures in the low 80s. We would like to thank our judges, Ellison Gilliland, Tom Krause and Ben Faulkner. All the help banding and planting birds was much appreciated by the trial chairman Ben Faulkner and of course we want to thank out sponsor, Purina for all the support they give us for each and…
